Jed McCaleb is the co-founder of Stellar.org, and he believes in using technology to make businesses more efficient and to help make the world better for people. He put together, both, eDonkey, a top file-sharing network, and Mt. Gox, which is the first exchange for bitcoin that came out, and he also founded Ripple. He created Stellar.org to help with the world’s financial infrastructure and to help people that have less resources. As the technical development leader of the company, he is working to ensure that as many people in the world as possible can participate in the economics of the world.
Jed McCaleb has stated that the idea for Stellar came from his interest in Bitcoin and how he could, clearly, see that it would be a great way to transform the economy of the world. He found it disturbing when he learned that 2.5 billion people do not have bank accounts and have no way of saving money. This means those same people can’t send money to their family without paying huge fees. Stellar allows low-income individuals a way to move money around for a much lower price than they can now by using an open source financial network, and businesses as well as non-profits are already benefiting from its system.
Jed McCaleb splits his day up into the two different kinds of work that he needs to gets done. He either focuses, exclusively, on coding and building or taking care of customer service and answering emails, etc. He feels like this keeps him working at his best and forces him to focus on the priorities of the day. Along with his interest in a virtual economy, Jed McCaleb is fascinated by artificial intelligence and all of its potential. He foresees that over the next couple of decades that AI will make life easier for people, and he has donated to Machine Intelligence Research Institute to make sure that AI is operated safely.
